CONTEMPORARY VERSE (subtitled
The All-Poetry Magazine for America) was an influential, early 20th-century
literary journal that operated from 1916 to 1929. It was recognized
at the time as the second oldest poetry journal in the United States.
|
The magazine was launched
in Philadelphia in January 1916 and ended in 1929.
Benjamin Francis Musser took the editorial reins from 1926 to 1929.
|
The magazine was sold for a single-copy
price of 25 cents or via a yearly subscription of $2.00 (which also bundled
Musser's other publication, JAPM: The Poetry Weekly).
|
Musser published CONTEMPORARY VERSE
and JAPM: THE POETRY WEEKLY. Both journals ceased publication at the end
of 1929 when they were merged with BOZART, THE BI-MONTHLY POETRY
REVIEW. Musser devoted the rest of his life to religious work.
